It was a cold, rainy week. We haven’t been in Pennsylvania in May for several years. We’ve always spent three weeks at RUF’s Summer Conference in Florida. There I met with staff, interacted with students, and did a lot of work over the internet. This year is much the same – minus the warm, sunny weather.
Last week I had nice, long phone calls with two interns, several staff, a couple of coordinators, and a committee chairman. I finished reading and replying to staff reports and worked on updating the report forms. The big news last week on Monday was from our candidate to take the Campus Minister position at Millersville University. He called to say he thought God was leading him elsewhere. Often in such situations you suspect some immaturity to be in play. I don’t think so in this case. From what I can tell, it sounded like a solid decision. However that left us with three weeks to find someone by the June 1 start date.
I emailed two seminary students whom I thought might be interested in a one-year position, and one replied “yes!” I spend the latter part of the week in discussions about this possibility. Tomorrow I will join a call with the RUF committee to discuss this man. It appears that God provided for us in the last minute!
So I will not participate in RUF’s first virtual assessment, but Ruth is still needed so she will be involved. She will have a busy week getting ready. Meanwhile, I’ll have my hands full orienting our two new men to their campuses and to RUF.
