Last Monday I had lunch with area pastors and worked on conference and other details. On Tuesday I began the long, snowy, and beautiful trip to Burlington, Vermont. The weather delayed me, but I arrived in time to join the men’s dinner and Bible study. Afterward I had a pleasant visit with John and Megan Meinen. John (the campus minister) and I spent Wednesday morning together. RUF at the University of Vermont has become a solid ministry. There is always room to improve, but John has a firm grasp on reaching the campus. I met with John’s intern after lunch then headed to Providence, Rhode Island, arriving in time for the leaders’ meeting at 9:00 PM.
Thursday was the first relaxed day I’ve had in several weeks. I had a long lunch with Eddie Park, the campus minister here, worked on my sermon for Friday, and joined a long conference call with an RUF committee in the evening. On Friday I met with one of the interns, then spent the afternoon on administrative work. I preached on “Compassion in God’s Kingdom” from Mark 6 at the Large Group Meeting that evening. I prepared the Sunday School lesson before bed, and drove home on Saturday. RUF at Brown and RISD is holding its own while the campus minister is on leave. The student leaders and interns are leading effectively.
This week Ruth will go with me to Washington, D.C.; Dover, Delaware; and Newark, Delaware.
