Don’t you love a good blizzard? Today Ruth and I dug out from a 32″ snowfall yesterday, then spent the rest of the day recovering!
Last week I visited Penn State and the University of Pittsburgh – two of our most mature ministries in the Northeast. First State College, and dinner with Joe and Melissa Dentici. After a surprisingly mild winter so far, the temperature dropped. It was bitterly cold on this trip, but the Denticis and the Penn State students received me warmly. On Tuesday I met with Joe, his intern, and some students. That evening I attended a freshman Bible study. Penn State students are capable of amazing leadership and initiative, and Joe and I talked about how to encourage that in our RUF students.
Wednesday on to Pittsburgh. I had lunch with an old friend Eric Molicki and dinner with Derek and Luda Bates. They now have four lively children and we talked about parenting, among other things. Thursday began with a meeting with the RUF presbytery committee chairman, then each of Derek’s interns, lunch with Derek, and afternoon with Callie, the staff woman at Pitt. Callie needs to finish raising the funds for her ministry, so we spent three hours discussing how to go about that. Dinner with two students, then the Large Group Meeting where Derek preached on the biblical view of family from Genesis 3-4 and Matthew 1.
I had a quick breakfast with Derek on Friday before heading home. Derek’s group is solid and mature. We discussed how to help the students develop more ownership of the ministry.
Yesterday I worked in the office while the blizzard blew outside. Tomorrow I’m heading up to Connecticut and Vermont. Pray for good travels!
