January 17, 2016 — Coordinators Retreat and Office

Last Monday I sat down to “take care of a few things” before I wrote this report – and here I am! It seems that everything last week took longer than I expected – longer than it should.

I last wrote as I was flying to the annual coordinators retreat. We find that our regular meetings tend to get filled up with pressing matters that either fill up the time or wear us out, or both. We don’t have opportunities to look at the big picture, to discuss long-range plans or new ideas. In January we spend several days doing this.

This year’s retreat, two weeks ago, was rewarding, as Brian Habig led our discussions. Brian was an RUF minister at two universities before he took a church, and he was a skilled moderator. It was also a good time to spend together as coordinators.

Last week I went to New Jersey for the first meeting of the RUF committee of the New Jersey Presbytery. This is the presbytery that is working to bring RUF to Rowan University. On Thursday Ruth flew to Atlanta for the RUF wives retreat. I picked her up at the airport a few hours ago. She had a good time, as always.

So yes, I did accomplish most of what I needed to do last week. Primarily I wrote the Epiphany family letter, made travel arrangements for January and February, and removed the Christmas decorations. Plus a lot of boring but necessary office work. The blessing is that I had time to do it.

Tomorrow I head out to State College, and then to Pittsburgh, visiting the campus ministers there. Pray for a good trip.
