February 18, 2019 — Assessment and Millersville

Last week Ruth and I raced out of worship and drove to Philadelphia to catch our plane for the long flight to Dallas, where we spent the next three days evaluating couples for suitability for RUF ministry. It is always good to meet the eager couples, but it is tiring for these two introverts to spend all day for three days with people. We were pleased that a couple from southeastern Pennsylvania came. RUF has a lot of good people to choose from, which we will need to fill open positions this year.

We got home shortly before midnight on Wednesday, and Thursday morning I drove to Millersville to visit with Trip and Joy Beans. I had lunch with the Ministry Team, talked with Trip, and returned to campus for the Large Group meeting where Trip gave an excellent message about relationships. Friday morning I had a long phone call with the committee chairman in the Northern New England Presbytery to discuss two new RUF ministries – one in New Hampshire and one in Maine! Ruth drove down and joined us for a delightful dinner in the evening. Ruth accompanied me to my own presbytery meeting on Saturday where Matt Franchetti preached a wonderful sermon and was examined for ordination. Matt has been called as the next pastor of our church – Lehigh Valley Presbyterian.

Today I will fly to Mexico City where I will spend the week with the ministry there. Temperatures in the 80s are predicted!
